ROSE INFUSED OIL

Oh, the smell of roses… Yes, please.

Oils are infused with herbs, so the herbs release their sweet juices into oils and enhance their medicinal properties. For this recipe You only need 2 ingredients, roses and oil.

Roses are well known for their beautiful effects on the skin for centuries. However, rose essential oil is quite expensive and not affordable to everyone. Infusing oil with rose petals gives You an opportunity to enjoy benefits of roses on Your skin for less money and also gives You control of the strength of the infusion and the ingredients and the process.

It also gives You something to look forward to for 4 weeks. When its finished, it’s like its Christmas and You get a present. It takes seconds to make and 4 weeks of waiting while roses do their magic.

Smell of this oil is milder than that of rose essential oil, but still beautiful.

If You have access to roses that were not treated with pesticides, You can pick petals, dry them for 24 hours, so they don’t cause mold and then use them. The other solution is to buy organic dry rose petals.

As a carrier oil, You can use oil that You usually use for Your skin, depending on Your skin type. If You are not sure which oils suit Your skin type and Your individual skin, You can check out this website and experiment a bit.

This infusion can be used for face or body. It can be mixed with essential oils too. I use jojoba oil, almond oil or argan oil as a carrier oil if I am going to use it on my face and (melted) coconut oil if I am using it as body lotion.

If You don’t know which are the right oils for Your skin type, You can read this article and You will get the idea what oil to try.

You need:

dry rose petals

carrier oil of choice

glass jar with a lid

You do:

  1. Fill 3/4 of glass jar with dry rose petals and fill the rest of the jar with oil. Close the jar.
  2. Leave in a cool dark place for 4 weeks. Occasionally stir by moving a jar in circular motions.
  3.  Strain over a small bowl using a strainer and cheesecloth (or a piece of clean old T-shirt washed at 60C). Use cheesecloth to catch herbs and then squeeze it to strain all oil from the petals.

If You want stronger infusion, You can use the infused oil with fresh petals to repeat the process.
